I have suffered through this problem since 1984, when I was a Junior in College. It all started when I suffered a severe cold and a high fever. It was during exam week and I remember taking an exam as droplets of sweat fell onto my paper.
I never drew a correlary between my fever and the sweating and therefore I began to obsess about sweating, until that was all that I thought about - I would imagine myself in social situations and even the mere thought of this sent rivers of sweat throughout my body, I mean rivers ! I always wondered if I had originally realized that this was a normal biological reaction to the flu, I may not have obsessed about it so much, but I did.
It was really debilitating and having suffered for many years, I have found that there are a couple of drugs that really work. Had I nown about these drugs from the get-go, I would not have suffered so desperately for so long.
The 1st drug is Inderal, it is a beta blocker and it is used to treat hypertension. This will assist in slowing your heart rate as it is a diuretic. While I do not use this medication much, I am always comforted to know that I have plenty in the event that I may encounter a stressful situation ( these are really now the only times that I am prone to sweating ie; public speaking, etc. ).
The second drug is Valium, or any diazapam-type drug. These medications simply settle you down and while some think that they are addictive, they are not when they are used to treat the root of your problem - panic attacts.
The more you dwell on the sweating, the more that it will develop into a full blown disorder. It is key to catch this thing asap. I discovered this treatment only after years of emotional suffering and if I can help anyone avoid this, then I have an obligation to assist. I know what you are going through and no one else that has not suffered through this does. Please feel free to call me if you would like, my cell phone is 617-645-5090. Thanks,
