In Response To: translation please. (jason Tucker)

Jason,

This is a short version of a longer quote, "Nil desperandum Teucro duce et auspice Teucro" "Never despair while under the guidance and auspices of Teucer." It is from the ode Carmina (I, 7, 27) by the Roman author Horace (Quintus Horatius Flaccus) who lived from 65 B.C. to 8 B.C. Teucro was one of the greek heros of the Trojan war.

It is used as the motto in some of the coats of arms for some branches of the Tucker family. Other branches use "Nil desperandum" as the motto. This too refers to the quote from Horace.

I hope this helps.

John.
