Latin and Family Mottos

In Response To: Laus Deo (brian)

"Laus Deo" does indeed mean "Praise to God", "laus" being in the nominative, and "Deo" in the dative (to, for).

"Laus Deus" means nothing.
Perhaps "The god Praise", as if it were a personification. All I can add is: never trust online translators. EVER. Regarding Latin, they have no sense of word conjugation whatsoever and ignore all known grammatical rules, not to mention the fact that I've known them to create and spread nonsense words, which have found their way across the Internet, used by unsuspecting amateurs who have no idea that their self-created Latin motto means nothing at all. Anyway.

A phonetic pronunciation should be along the lines of "Lows (as in "cows") day-oh"
