Discussion of Alcoholism

My father has been an alcoholic for at least the past 15 years, I am now 29 and living back at home following the breakdown of a relationship. He also suffers from a blood disorder, cirrhosis of the liver and eschaemic heart disease. My mother and I are at our wits end. He denies he has been drinking even when he can barely stand and stinks of alcohol, that may the worst part of it, the lies. He is becoming increasingly argumentative and paranoid, coupled with inappropriate outbursts and shows of violence, although I hasten to say that he has never hit any member of my family, just walls and inanimate objects. He has managed to destroy every scrap of respect I ever had for him and is making my mothers life a living hell. We feel trapped and, God forgive us, wish the drinking would finally kill him, for his sake as well as ours.
