Discussion of Alcoholism
alcohol induced dementia

My sister has been a practicing alcoholis for over 30 years. She is now 48, and is currently suffering some of kind of dementia. It is a mystery to me. I don't understand this at all. Approximately four weeks ago, family members went to intervene, but apparently it was too late. She was in what appeared to be a drunken state. It seems that after putting information together from several people, she had sat in a chair for three days without moving.
She had complained of being ill for some time. Her symptoms were vomiting, nausea and an upset stomach. She could not stand certain smells and stated she was weak.
She went to several medical doctors for tests but they found nothing but an irritated stomach.
When the family decided to take her to a treatment facility, an ambulance came to pick her up and noticed that her blood sugar level was over 400. The ambulance subsequently took her to a hospital. All of this time, the family thought she was in a drunken stupor.
This condition persists until today, more than four weeks later. She does not walk, has limited memory and no desire to get better.
The doctors called it a medical term but I am not sure what but it boils down to alcohol induced dementia. Could you please explain this to me?
