For those asking about a long term prognosis...

Wernicke-Korsakoff sufferers can show improvement with their memory and mobility if they are immediatley treated with Thiamine... it will take some time with continuous treatment. Also they will probably not recover fully and the extent of the recover depends on how much and how long they have been drinking. However all the Thiamine in the world will not help them if they are still drinking and this would be the first barrier to cross i.e. a safe physiological detox from alcohol using a reducing regime of chlordiazepoxide to counter the dangerous and sometimes fatal symptoms of DTs.

20-30% of those diagnosed with alcohol induced dementia will die from it.
